It was 2019, during an all-weekend camping music festival. On the middle day of the festival, a bleary eyed Paul emerged mid morning from his van, asking us where the ponies were. After some confused looks between us all, he continued asking “Where are those pink and purple ponies that were given to us last night? I want to ride one into town to go and get a coffee”. The whole band assumed that Paul had dropped acid the night before and was having a little come down. We kinda laughed it off and he sat down real confused. It was not until we found him asleep in a chair in the hot sun and sweaty and shivering an hour or so later, that we realised he might be sick… Turns out he had a bit of a bad case of the flu and a pretty terrible fever which was causing him to hallucinate. So we gave him some water, paracetamol and vitamin C, and put him back to bed. Hoping he could sleep it off and feel better before our set that night. About 10pm, we got him up, got him dressed, pepped up on Sudafed and Vicks VapoRub, and he and the whole band smashed out the best set of the year. The crowd went wild, and the vibes were mega high. After we came off stage, with poor Paul vomiting in the background, we vowed to call our next album ACID PONY. When we finished the album, we thought it actually suited well.
